Biography

Harry E. Northup is a seasoned actor with a career spanning over three decades, boasting an impressive 37 film credits, including Mean Streets, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, Fighting Mad, Citizens Band, Blue Collar, Over the Edge, Tom Horn, Used Cars, Kansas, The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Bad Girls, Beloved, and a remake of The Manchurian Candidate.

In addition to his extensive filmography, Harry has also made a mark in television, appearing in 43 shows, including ER, The Court, "In Cold Blood", The Deliberate Stranger, The Day the Bubble Burst, and Knots Landing.

As a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 1976, Harry has been a part of the esteemed organization for over four decades.

What sets Harry apart is his dual talent as an actor and a poet. He has published nine books of poetry, including Amarillo Born, the jon voight poems, Eros ASsh, Enough The Great Running Chapel, the images we possess kill the capturing, The Ragged Vertical, Reunions, Greatest Hits, 1966-2001, and Red Snow Fence.

Harry received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from California State University, Northridge, where he studied under the guidance of renowned poet Ann Stanford.

The Harry Northup Collection, comprising his professional and private papers, manuscripts, journals, scripts, correspondence, and ephemera, is housed at the Mandeville Special Collections Library, University of California, San Diego, for the purpose of instruction, research, and preservation.

Harry's personal life is marked by a loving relationship with his wife, Holly Prado Northup, a writer and teacher, whom he shares a home with in East Hollywood. His son, Dylan, resides in Wisconsin.
