Harold Holzer, a renowned scholar of Abraham Lincoln and the political culture of the American Civil War Era, was born on February 5, 1949. As the director of Hunter College's prestigious Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute, Holzer brings his vast expertise to the forefront.
Prior to his current role, Holzer spent an impressive twenty-three years as senior vice president for public affairs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2015.
Throughout his illustrious career as a historian, Holzer has authored, co-authored, and edited an astonishing 52 books, while also contributing an impressive 550 articles to magazines and journals, as well as chapters and forewords for 60 additional books. Many of his remarkable works have garnered awards, including the esteemed Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize and four other awards in 2015 for his groundbreaking book "Lincoln and the Power of the Press".
