Harold Goodwin, a renowned English actor, was born on October 22, 1917, in Wombwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England.

He began his acting career by training at RADA and subsequently became a stage actor at Liverpool repertory theatre, where he spent three years honing his craft.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Goodwin appeared in numerous British films, often portraying working-class characters from Northern England or low-ranking military personnel. His notable roles included parts in the war films The Dam Busters, The Bridge on the River Kwai, and The Longest Day.

In addition to his film work, Goodwin made hundreds of television appearances in various programs, such as Minder, All Creatures Great and Small, and That's My Boy. He also had a notable role in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, playing the part of Joss Shackleton, father to Vera Duckworth, in the early 1990s.

Goodwin's television career spanned many decades, and he continued to appear in popular shows even in his later years. One of his final notable roles was in the episode "Time Share" of the sitcom One Foot in the Grave, where he played a window cleaner in 1990.
