Biography

Gys is a renowned South African actor who has achieved immense success in his 39-year career, earning him an Alien of Extraordinary ability visa, also known as a Green Card, in 2015. This prestigious award recognizes his outstanding performances in film, television, and theatre, allowing him to reside in New York.

Throughout his illustrious career, Gys has built an impressive portfolio, featuring over 58 professional theatre productions, 30 feature films, 20 television series, and 12 long-running soap operas in South Africa and abroad.

In the United States, he has been prolific, completing 156 shoots for short films, TV series, web series, feature films, corporate videos, and theatre productions.

Gys has recently received critical acclaim, winning two Best Actor Awards for his performance in "It Gets Better" at The International Filmmaker Festival Of World Cinema - Nice and The Southern States Indie FanFilmFest.

He has also had the opportunity to work on several notable projects, including a 6-month contract in the immersive theatre production "Sleep No More," where he danced the role of Duncan. In December 2019, he performed in the highly acclaimed "Reparations" at The Billie Holiday Theater, directed by Michele Shay.

Gys's most recent international work includes his role as President FW De Klerk in the biographical drama "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" alongside Idris Elba. He also starred in the action-thriller "Vehicle 19" alongside the late Paul Walker.
