Person Biography:
Gunasekhar is a renowned Telugu film director and screenwriter, born on June 2, 1964, in the coastal village of Narsipatnam, Vizag district, Andhra Pradesh, India. He pursued his Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Vishakhapatnam. Gunasekhar's passion for Telugu literature and film industry led him to move to Chennai, where he began his career as an assistant writer under Kasi Viswanadh and later worked as an assistant director under D.V.Narsaraju, Kranthi Kumar, and Ram Gopal Varma.
He made his directorial debut with Lathi (1992) and won the prestigious AP State Nandi Award for Best Directorial Debut. Gunasekhar's subsequent films, Sogasu Chooda Tharama (1995),Ramayanam (1997),and Choolani Vundi (1998),received critical acclaim and won several State and National awards. He is the first director to introduce DTS sound in Andhra Pradesh with Choolani Vundi.
Gunasekhar's collaboration with Mahesh Babu resulted in the blockbuster film Okkadu (2003),which won numerous awards, including the Filmfare Best Director Award. The film was remade in several languages and is considered a trendsetter in the Telugu film industry. He went on to direct Arjun (2005),Sainikudu (2007),Varudu (2010),Nippu (2012),and Rudhramadevi (2015),the latter being a historical biopic of the 13th-century Kakatiya Queen Rudhramadevi.
Gunasekhar's latest work, Rudhramadevi, is lauded as India's first historical stereoscopic 3D film. The film won numerous awards, including the Filmfare Best Director Award, and grossed over 100 crores worldwide. Throughout his career, Gunasekhar has received numerous accolades, including the AP State Nandi Awards, Filmfare Awards, and CineMaa Awards.
