Thomas Grant Gustin, known professionally as Grant Gustin, is a talented American actor and singer. He is widely recognized for his iconic roles as Barry Allen/Flash on the CW series The Flash and as Sebastian Smythe on the Fox series Glee.
Born on January 14, 1990, in Norfolk, Virginia, Gustin is the son of Dr. Tina Lynne (Sweeney) Haney, a pediatric nurse, and Thomas Avery Gustin. During his high school years, he attended the Governor's School for the Arts program in Norfolk, Virginia, for Musical Theatre, as well as Hurrah Players Incorporated, a theatre organization in Virginia.
In 2008, Gustin graduated from Granby High School and went on to attend the BFA Music Theatre Program at Elon University in North Carolina for two years. However, he left school to take on the role of Baby John in the Broadway Revival Tour of West Side Story, performing with the tour from its opening on September 30, 2010, through September 23, 2011.
On November 8, 2011, Gustin made his television debut on the popular series Glee as Sebastian Smythe, an openly gay member of the Dalton Academy Warblers. He won the recurring role after an exhaustive, weeks-long casting search and began filming early on Monday, September 26, 2011.
Gustin's television career continued to flourish as he landed a major role in the independent film Affluenza and appeared in the original film A Mother's Nightmare for the Lifetime network. He also had a role in the CW series Arrow, initially appearing in three episodes before being upgraded to a major role in the second season.
In 2014, Gustin starred in the stand-alone pilot The Flash, which was picked up with an initial order of thirteen episodes. The series premiered on October 7, 2014, with 4.8 million viewers, the most for a premiere on The CW in five years. The show was later renewed for a second season, third season, and has since become a staple on the network.
In addition to his television work, Gustin has also appeared in films such as Krystal, co-starring with Nick Robinson in 2017. In 2018, he married his wife, Andrea Thoma.
