Biography

Gottfried Kolditz, a renowned German movie actor and director, was born on December 14, 1922, in Goldbach-Altenbach, to a humble farm family.

He embarked on a journey of academic pursuit, studying German philology at the University of Leipzig between 1945 and 1949. Additionally, he took a course in direction and acting at the Leipzig Higher School of Music and Drama from 1947 to 1949.

In the early 1950s, Kolditz's professional career began to take shape as he worked as an actor and director at various theaters across East Germany.

Following 1955, he joined DEFA, the prominent East German film studio, where he worked on a diverse range of projects, including fairy tales, adventure films, musicals, and science fiction. His notable works include "Ms. Blizzard," a film adaptation of the Brothers Grimm's story, as well as "Signals" and "B dust of stars," which explored themes reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

As a prolific scriptwriter, Kolditz wrote scripts for both his own projects and those of other directors. He gained widespread recognition for his Red Westerns, a series of films that featured actor Gojko Mitić and included "Next Falcon," "Apache," and "Ulzana."

Tragically, Kolditz passed away on June 15, 1982, in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, while preparing to shoot his final film, "Chief White Feather." The project was later completed by another director.
