Biography

Glenn Gregory is the lead vocalist for Heaven 17, a renowned English electronic new wave band consisting of three members: Gregory, Ian Craig Marsh, and Martyn Ware. Prior to joining Heaven 17, Gregory was initially approached by Marsh and Ware to be the lead singer of their previous band, The Human League, but was unavailable at the time, leading to the recruitment of Phil Oakey instead.

However, due to creative differences, Marsh and Ware left The Human League and formed Heaven 17, successfully securing Gregory's vocal talents. Between 1981 and 1982, Heaven 17 released a string of minor hit singles, including '(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang', 'Play To Win', 'Penthouse and Pavement', and 'Let Me Go', with their album 'Penthouse and Pavement' reaching No. 14 on the album chart.

It was in 1983 that Glenn experienced his first real taste of success with the release of 'Temptation', which rocketed to No. 2 on the singles chart, featuring backing vocals by Carol Kenyon. The band quickly followed up the single with the hits 'Come Live With Me' and 'Crushed by the Wheels of Industry', and their album 'The Luxury Gap' shot to No. 4, making 1983 the definitive year for Glenn Gregory and Heaven 17.

Glenn has remained with the band and enjoyed many hits, including 'Sunset Now', 'This Is Mine', and '... (And That's No Lie)', as well as the album 'How Men Are', all between 1984 and 1985. In 1992, 'Temptation' was re-released and went straight to No. 4, and Glenn has since featured on over twenty studio, compilation, and live albums with Heaven 17.

In addition to his work with Heaven 17, Gregory has also provided key vocals on the Band Aid single 'Do They Know It's Christmas' alongside a myriad of pop and rock stars. He possesses a deep and distinctive voice that complements the electronic music genre, similar to that of Phil Oakey and Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode.

Gregory's vocals can be heard in various movies, including Summer Lovers, Night Shift, Sliver, and Trainspotting, as well as the soundtrack to the computer drama Electric Dreams, which also features Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder. In 2008, Glenn and Heaven 17 were part of the Sheffield-based 'Steel City Tour' along with The Human League and ABC, touring the UK.

Glenn further toured with Heaven 17 in 2010, and they appeared on Later... With Jools Holland, eliciting a 'rapturous response' from the live audience.
