Gigi Perreau was born on February 6, 1941, in Los Angeles to a French father and an American mother. Her acting career began at the tender age of 2-1/2 when her mother was approached by a talent agent who represented child actors. Gigi's breakthrough role came when producer/director Mervyn LeRoy discovered her ability to speak French and English at the age of 5, casting her as Greer Garson's daughter in Madame Curie (1943).
Gigi went on to play notable roles in films such as Two Girls and a Sailor (1944),Mr. Skeffington (1944),Song of Love (1947),and Green Dolphin Street (1947) with MGM. At Universal-International, she received an award from the Screen Children's Guild and appeared in top-quality films like Family Honeymoon (1948),My Foolish Heart (1949),and Shadow on the Wall (1950).
In the 1950s, Gigi continued to appear in films like Has Anybody Seen My Gal (1952) and Bonzo Goes to College (1952),but her popularity began to wane as she entered her teenage years. She appeared in low-budget exploitation films like The Cool and the Crazy (1958),Girls Town (1959),and Hell on Wheels (1967).
Gigi also transitioned to television, co-starring in the sitcom The Betty Hutton Show (1959) and the detective drama Follow the Sun (1961). She guest-starred in numerous TV shows, including "Whirlybirds," "The Donna Reed Show," and "Perry Mason."
At age 20, Gigi married and had three children. She later became a stage director and college prep drama teacher, rarely seen on film or television since the late 1960s. Her brother Gerald, also a child actor, went on to have a successful career in film and television.
