Gerald Kelly was born in the Bronx, New York, to a single mother, who raised him along with his three younger siblings. As a youngster, Kelly's unique perspective on life made him a class favorite, earning him a special place in the hearts of his teachers and peers.
Kelly's charismatic personality and impressive comedic skills often left his classmates and teachers in awe. He would frequently regale his audience with spontaneous stories, cleverly poking fun at anyone who dared to challenge his wit. His impressive impersonations of teachers' voices over the school's public address system, such as "This is a fire drill!!", would often cause chaos and laughter, and Kelly would cleverly disappear into the school crowd without getting caught.
One of his teachers, impressed by Kelly's comedic talents, once remarked, "Young man, you should be a comedian." Kelly's passion for comedy never wavered, even as he pursued other interests and passions.
After high school, Kelly married his high school sweetheart, and soon became a father to his son, Isiah. To provide for his growing family, Kelly enlisted in the Navy, where he served for a time.
Upon his return from the Navy, Kelly welcomed a second child, his daughter Yazmine, and knew he needed to make a living as quickly as possible. Although comedy remained his true passion, Kelly took a security guard job and continued to write jokes in his free time.
Today, Kelly has built a multi-faceted career that has taken him to stages across the United States, Japan, and Puerto Rico. He has appeared on various TV shows, including HBO's Def Comedy Jam, Showtime at the Apollo, Conan O'Brien, and BET Comic View. His film credits include "The Other Brother" and "Death of a Dynasty", and his DVD "Comedy In The Hood" has been a commercial success.
Kelly has also had a successful radio career, hosting morning shows on Radio 107.5 WBLS and WZMX in Hartford, Connecticut. His current radio gig involves hosting a show three times a week on WZMX from his home in California, where he resides with his family.
Throughout his life, Kelly has faced numerous challenges, including divorce, loss, and tragedy. However, he has always managed to find the humor in even the darkest of situations, using his comedy to cope and inspire others.
