Georges Neveux, a renowned French dramatist and poet, was born in 1900 and passed away in 1982. He is most notable for his 1927 play, Juliette ou la clé des songes, which premiered in 1930 and later inspired various adaptations, including Theodor Schaefer's melodrama Julie aneb Snar, Bohuslav Martinů's opera Julietta, and the 1951 film Juliette, or Key of Dreams.
During the 1930s, while serving as the general secretary of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Neveux's creative output slowed, but he rebounded in 1943 with the publication of Le Voyage de Thésée, which would later be adapted by Martinů into an opera titled Ariane in 1958. In 1945, Neveux demonstrated his mastery of translation by adapting Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
In addition to his work in the theatre, Neveux also penned numerous filmscripts, though he remained true to his passion for the stage, acknowledging that "the first because one must earn a living, the second because one must deserve to live."
