Born in Philadelphia, George Litto attended Temple University and received a Bachelor's degree in Business. He started his career as a highly successful film producer, talent agent, and film executive at the William Morris Agency in New York City.
In 1965, Litto formed his own literary agency, representing screenwriters, producers, and directors. He packaged the creative elements for numerous films, including M*A*S*H, Planet of the Apes, Nashville, Midnight Cowboy, Fiddler on the Roof, and Papillon.
Litto also negotiated distribution deals for independent producers, working on films such as Images, That Cold Day in the Park, Sweet Sweetback's Baadassssss Song, Sisters, The Lords of Flatbush, and Where Does It Hurt?
Throughout his career, Litto represented notable directors and writers, including Robert Altman, Joe Losey, Brian De Palma, Waldo Salt, Dalton Trumbo, Ring Lardner Jr., Michael Wilson, Abraham Polonsky, and Arnold Perl.
In 1973, Litto began producing films, starting with Thieves Like Us, a critically acclaimed Robert Altman film. He went on to produce Obsession, Drive-In, Over the Edge, Dressed to Kill, Blowout, Kansas, and Night Game.
After leaving Filmways, Litto became an independent producer, producing films such as Kansas and Night Game. He then took time off to focus on his family and personal interests.
In 1998, Litto formed George Litto Pictures, Inc., securing a $100 million line of credit to finance and produce films. His first film, The Crew, was released in 2000 and starred Richard Dreyfuss, Burt Reynolds, and Carrie Ann Moss.
Litto's production company, George Litto Productions, Inc., has an extensive development program, including films such as Vanished, The Blizzard, How Little We Know, and Unplanned Parenthood, written by his daughter, Andria Litto.
