Djordjije Lekovic, a Serbian-born filmmaker, was born on May 23rd, 1978, in Belgrade, and now resides in New York City. Growing up in communist Yugoslavia, his interest in philosophy and psychology emerged early on, which he later channeled through his undergraduate and graduate studies in Rome and New York City.
He graduated from the College of Staten Island in 2004 with high honors, earning a Magna Cum Laude and the Elliot Rubenstein Memorial Award for Academic Excellence. Following his graduation, he started working and completed a significant portion of the Media Department's MA curriculum.
Over the past three years, Djordjije has worked in various capacities, including as an editor, director of photography, and Steadicam operator. He has contributed to numerous short pieces, TV pilots, documentaries, and feature films, including five feature films. Recently, he directed and shot a 35mm feature film, "Polycarp," which premiered as the opening film of the 2007 Hoboken International Film Festival and was later picked up for distribution in the USA by Universal.
Djordjije is also the Managing Director and Founder of KinoKamera, a creative film company that brings together individuals from diverse disciplines to solve problems and create innovative ideas. He has frequently lectured at the School of Visual Arts and has exhibited his work internationally, including at the New Moment Gallery in Belgrade, Serbia.
As of December 2007, Djordjije is currently producing two feature films and preparing to direct his dramatic feature in late 2008.
