Biography

Geoffrey Whitehead is a renowned actor who has had a distinguished career in both television and theatre. Born in 1930, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1960. He began his career on stage, performing with the Bristol Old Vic and the Royal Shakespeare Company, he where appeared in numerous classical roles.

On television, Whitehead has made a wide range of appearances, including guest roles in popular shows such as The Avengers, The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes, Reilly: Ace of Spies, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and Poirot. He also had a recurring role in the police series Z Cars, playing two different characters over the course of four seasons.

In addition to his work in drama, Whitehead has also appeared in several period dramas, including Jane Eyre, The Cleopatras, Peter the Great, Strauss Dynasty, and Little Dorrit. He has played a variety of characters in these shows, including the dour and austere suitor St. John Rivers, Roman general Scipio Africanus, Russian statesman Vasily Golitsyn, and a doctor.

Whitehead has also demonstrated his comedic skills, co-starring in TV shows such as Second Thoughts, Reggie Perrin, Still Open All Hours, and Not Going Out. He has also provided voiceovers for several radio shows, including Bleak Expectations and adaptations of Terry Pratchett's novels Eric and Mort.

In his personal life, Whitehead has been married to Irish-born actress Mary Hanefey since 1964.
