Biography

Geoff Nicholls, the unassuming yet integral fifth member of the legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath, has been an essential part of the group's behind-the-scenes operations since his introduction in 1979. Prior to joining Black Sabbath, Nicholls honed his skills as a member of Quartz, a band whose 1977 album was produced by none other than Tony Iommi, Black Sabbath's iconic guitarist. Nicholls' tenure with Black Sabbath began with the 1980 album "Heaven And Hell" and has continued uninterrupted to this day, with the keyboardist making significant writing contributions to the band's discography, particularly on the album "Seventh Star".

As the only member aside from Tony Iommi to have played with every past and present lineup of Black Sabbath, Nicholls has witnessed firsthand the band's numerous reunions and lineup changes, consistently providing his keyboard expertise to every iteration. Despite often being credited as an "additional musician" rather than an equal member, Nicholls' importance to the band cannot be overstated. His extensive experience and knowledge have made him a go-to source for insight into Black Sabbath's tumultuous history, with his quotes featured prominently throughout Gary Sharpe-Young's comprehensive book "Never Say Die!", a definitive chronicle of the band's 1979-1997 era.
