Genichiro Shimada, better known as Genichiro Tenryu, is a renowned retired Japanese professional wrestler and promoter, whose illustrious career spanned multiple decades. At the tender age of 13, he embarked on a sumo wrestling journey, which lasted for an impressive 13 years. Following this stint, he transitioned to Western-style professional wrestling, adopting the shikona "Tenryu".
Throughout his career, Tenryu had the privilege of affiliating with several prominent professional wrestling organizations, including All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW),where he spent the majority of his tenure. Additionally, he promoted Super World of Sports (SWS),Wrestle Association R (WAR),and Tenryu Project, solidifying his reputation as a multifaceted and accomplished figure in the world of professional wrestling.
At the time of his retirement, esteemed professional wrestling journalist and historian Dave Meltzer opined that Tenryu could be considered among the top six biggest native stars in Japanese professional wrestling history. Furthermore, he holds an impressive five professional wrestling world championship titles to his name, cementing his status as a legendary figure in the sport.
