Gary Hershberger was born on April 5, 1964, in Inglewood, California, and spent his early years in North Hollywood, California, before moving to San Marino with his mother, Jane, and father, Richard, a lawyer, as well as his older sister, Linda.
Growing up, Gary was drawn to the creative arts, and his passion for theatre led him to excel in high school and at UCLA, where he starred in student Shane Black's play "It Never Rains" and soon began working consistently in film and television throughout college.
Gary's breakthrough came with his roles in the groundbreaking series "Twin Peaks" and "Six Feet Under", and he also appeared in films such as "Sneakers", where he played the younger version of Robert Redford's character.
Gary has had the opportunity to work with renowned directors such as Phil Alden Robinson, Alan Ball, and David Lynch, and has shared the screen with actors like Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, and Naomi Watts.
In addition to his acting career, Gary has also pursued writing, helping other writers bring their scripts to life and eventually becoming an award-winning writer himself, with wins in the Final Draft Big Break Screenplay Contest and the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards.
Gary is currently in development for his feature directorial debut, "Late in the Season", and has produced and directed the short film version, which stars Zachary Levi.
He is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, SAG-AFTRA, and Actors' Equity Association, and co-founded The Actor's Director Workshop with Sheryl Lee to help directors, writers, and actors collaborate and improve their craft.
In his free time, Gary enjoys playing basketball and has nine years of experience coaching youth basketball teams, including at the high school level. He is happily married with four wonderful children who inspire him every day.
