Jeffrey Garland, a multifaceted artist, has been dubbed an edgy urban poet, the embodiment of New York City's sound, a confessional singer-songwriter, and an explorer of the intricate connections between rock, race, and rebellion, with his work deemed worthy of being taught in schools.
Over a decade had elapsed since Jeffrey's last American album release when he burst back onto the scene with his 2011 masterpiece, The King of In Between. This album received widespread acclaim from esteemed publications such as NPR, The New Yorker, and USA Today, and sparked a creative resurgence for the artist, whose boundless energy and enthusiasm permeate every note of his subsequent records, Truth Serum (2013) and 14 Steps to Harlem (2017).
Throughout his illustrious career, Jeffrey has defied categorization, with his songs covered by a diverse array of artists, including punk pioneers The Circle Jerks, neo-folk band Vetiver, and jazz great Randy Brecker. His impressive roster of supporting musicians has included Dr. John, Sonny Rollins, James Taylor, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Larry Campbell, Duncan Sheik, Phoebe Snow, Sly and Robbie, and The Rumour, among many others.
With over five decades of experience, Jeffrey shows no signs of slowing down, and a feature-length documentary is currently in the works, drawing from decades of interviews, including those with 70's New York radio, the Yale University Oral Music Archives, and other sources. This film will provide an intimate portrayal of the artist, featuring rare photos, performance footage, candid scenes at home, and interviews with peers such as Graham Parker and Vernon Reid, as well as admirers like Harvey Keitel, Paul Auster, and Laurie Anderson.
