Biography

Here is the biography of Frieda Inescort:

Frieda Inescort was a Scottish-born actress who began her acting career on stage. Born on June 29, 1901, in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was the daughter of journalist John "Jock" Wightman and actress Elaine Inescourt. Frieda's parents divorced when she was young, and she was sent to live with various families and boarding schools in England and Wales. She eventually moved to the United States with her mother, who pursued a career in acting.

Frieda worked as a personal secretary to British Member of Parliament Waldorf Astor and his wife, Lady Nancy Astor, before deciding to pursue a career in acting. She began her stage career in the early 1920s, playing small roles in Broadway productions. She quickly gained popularity and became a vital force on Broadway, starring in numerous productions throughout the decade.

In the late 1920s, Frieda met and married assistant editor Ben Ray Redman, who later became a literary critic for the New York Herald Tribune. The couple relocated to Hollywood in the late 1930s, where Frieda began her film career. She made her debut in the 1935 film "The Dark Angel" and went on to appear in numerous films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, often playing haughty and sophisticated characters.

After her film career began to decline, Frieda returned to the stage and television, appearing in various productions throughout the 1940s and 1950s. She eventually focused on television, appearing in shows such as "Meet Corliss Archer" and "The She-Creature".

Frieda's later years were marked by health problems, including multiple sclerosis. She was forced to retire and eventually moved into a nursing home, where she died on February 21, 1976, at the age of 74.
