Biography

Person Biography:

Fred Williamson, a former American football player, rose to fame as one of the first Black male action stars in the early 1970s, during the "blaxploitation" era. He initially gained attention for his role as Steve Bruce in the TV series Julia (1968). His rugged physique and athletic build led to energetic roles in films such as That Man Bolt (1973),Black Caesar (1973),and Mean Johnny Barrows (1975).

Williamson established his own production company, Po 'Boy Productions, in 1974, which has produced over 40 movies to date. He was cast in numerous B-grade action movies by Italian producers in the 1980s. Throughout his career, Williamson has worked extensively in both film and television, often playing police officers in straight-to-video fare.

In recent years, Williamson has appeared in notable films such as From Dusk Till Dawn (1996),alongside director Robert Rodriguez and special effects guru Tom Savini, and Starsky & Hutch (2004),showcasing his comedic skills as grumpy Captain Dobey.
