Biography

From 1992 to 1995, Franziska Petri pursued her formal education at the prestigious Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin, a renowned institution that has produced some of the most talented thespians in the industry.

Her foray into the world of cinema began with a minor role in the 1997 film "Das Mambospiel" directed by Michael Gwisdek, which also happened to be the opening film at the 48th Berlin International Film Festival, a prestigious event that showcases the best of German and international cinema.

Petri's breakthrough role came in 2000 with her portrayal of the lead character in the award-winning film "Vergiss Amerika", a performance that garnered widespread critical acclaim and attention from audiences alike. This was followed by a string of successful films, including the historic drama "Leo und Claire" (2001) directed by Joseph Vilsmaier, the quirky comedy "Max and Moritz Reloaded" (2005) by Thomas Frydetzki, the psychological thriller "The Heart Is a Dark Forest" (2007) by Nicolette Krebitz, and the political drama "Long Shadows" (2008) by Connie Walter, among others.

In 2009, Petri starred in the psychological thriller "Für Miriam" directed by Lars-Gunnar Lotz, a performance that earned her numerous awards and accolades, including Best Actress at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival (Perspektive Deutsches Kino),Best Actress at La Cabina. In 2011, Petri took on the lead role in Kirill Serebrennikov's dark tale of love and betrayal, "Betrayal", which premiered in the official competition at the Venice Film Festival 2012. Her impressive performance earned her the Best Actress award at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
