Frank Hvam's childhood was filled with the sounds of barking dogs and quacking ducks on his family's farm in Ørum Sønderlyng, a rural area approximately 14 kilometers from Viborg in Jutland, Denmark. As a young boy, he spent his days helping his father manage the family's hobby kennels, an experience that would later influence his decision to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. In fact, Frank's childhood fascination with animals led him to envision himself as a modern-day 'Dr. Doolittle', and this dream remained with him as he grew older.
In 1992, Frank enrolled in the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen, where he met fellow student and renowned Danish comedian Jan Gintberg, who was studying agriculture. However, after two years of studying, Frank made the bold decision to leave behind his veterinary ambitions and pursue a career in comedy. His big break came in 1995 when he made his stand-up comedy debut at the legendary comedy club 'Din's'.
Frank's early success in stand-up comedy led to a job as a writer on the popular Danish TV show 'Ugen der gak' (TV2),which was hosted by Mette Lisby. He soon landed his own show, 'Alt under kontrol', on TV3. This exposure led to him being approached to create the hit series 'Casper og Mandrilaftalen' (1999) for Danish public broadcaster DR1, a project he worked on with Casper Christensen, Lars Hjortshøj, and Lasse Rimmer. Frank's versatility as an actor was showcased in the series, where he played a range of characters, including the lovable, naive, and slightly eccentric Gentleman Finn.
Frank's success in 'Casper og Mandrilaftalen' led to the creation of the first Danish full-scale sitcom, 'Langt fra Las Vegas' (2001),which he co-wrote with Casper Christensen and Lars Kjeldgaard.
