In the late 1980s, Bough's life was marred by controversy when a UK tabloid newspaper exposed his involvement with cocaine, cross-dressing, sadomasochism, and brothels. He expressed regret over his lifestyle in subsequent interviews, and his wife, Nesta, remained supportive throughout. Despite his wife's unwavering support, the revelations caused significant embarrassment and ultimately brought an end to his long and illustrious career at the BBC.
