Throughout his illustrious career, Rydén has received numerous prestigious awards. In 1993, he was honored with the Bonnier Grand Prize in journalism, which is considered the most esteemed journalism award in Sweden. This recognition is a testament to his exceptional journalistic skills and dedication to his craft.

More recently, in 2016, Rydén received the Baltic Sea Award for his thought-provoking depictions of the threats facing the Baltic Sea. This prestigious award is a testament to his tireless efforts in shedding light on important environmental and social issues.

Folke Rydén's academic background includes a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of Stockholm, which he earned between 1980 and 1982. He then began his professional journey as a staff reporter for Swedish Television (SVT) from 1982 to 1987.

Rydén's extensive experience in journalism has taken him to various parts of the world. He worked as a staff reporter for the Foreign News Desk at SVT from 1987 to 1989, before becoming the U.S. Correspondent for SVT in Washington, USA from 1989 to 1996.

In 1996, Rydén moved to Hong Kong to serve as the Asia Correspondent for SVT, a role he held until 1997. Since then, he has worked as a freelance correspondent and director/producer of documentary films, allowing him to pursue his passion for storytelling and filmmaking.
