Biography

Florenz Ames, a relatively late entrant into the television scene, embarked upon a remarkable journey, defying the conventional wisdom that one's prime years are behind them. In his early days, Ames honed his skills as a talented song and dance performer, showcasing his versatility on smaller stages alongside his wife, Alice "Adelaide" Winthrop, as part of the vaudeville duo "Ames and Winthrop". This esteemed partnership was responsible for bringing to life the acclaimed revue "Alice in Blunderland", with Winthrop taking on the starring role of Alice and Ames assuming a variety of roles. As his career progressed, Ames transitioned to the Broadway stage, where he made a lasting impact by appearing in numerous productions spanning from before the onset of World War I to the Korean War. His impressive repertoire included the original runs of "Of Thee I Sing" and "Oklahoma!", as well as a range of Gilbert & Sullivan operas.
