Biography

Fëlix Cábez is a renowned filmmaker with a rich background in the audiovisual industry, spanning over three decades. He graduated from Madrid's Complutense University with a degree in Imaging Science and began his career as a scriptwriter for Televisión Española in the early 1990s.

Throughout his illustrious career, Cábez has worked as a scriptwriter, director, and executive producer for major Spanish television channels. Prior to focusing on documentary filmmaking, he directed several short films that garnered critical acclaim and awards at prestigious international film festivals.

In 2000, Cábez wrote and directed his first documentary, "Buñuel en Hollywood," a critically acclaimed film produced by Canal Plus that explored Luis Buñuel's tumultuous experience in the United States during his prolonged exile. The documentary examined the Spanish filmmaker's struggles and triumphs in the American film industry, shedding new light on his fascinating life story.

Cábez's subsequent works include "Almodóvar siglo XX," a documentary about Pedro Almodóvar's career, produced by El Deseo for Vía Digital. He has also written scripts for feature films and collaborated with prominent Spanish choreographers and dancers on various audiovisual projects, earning numerous awards and accolades.

In 2002, Cábez made his feature film debut with the psychological thriller "El Refugio del Mal." His subsequent documentaries, such as "Cooking for Jenny," which premiered in 2005, showcased his versatility and skill in capturing the essence of his subjects.

In 2010, Cábez co-produced "La tierra de las mil orquestas" with Zebra Producciones and Televisión Española, a music documentary that delved into the Venezuelan orchestra system and featured narration by the legendary Plácido Domingo.

Following the discovery of previously unpublished material, Cábez re-edited his 2000 documentary "Buñuel en Hollywood" in 2012, incorporating new images of the protagonist and a new contribution from Woody Allen. The revised version, produced by Canal Plus, premiered in the summer of 2012.

Cábez's most recent work is the feature-length music documentary "The Labèque Way," which premiered at the Montreal International Film Festival in 2012. The film tells the captivating story of Katia and Marielle Labèque, the extraordinary French pianist duo. His forthcoming music film, "Las voces de Pilar Jurado," is currently in post-production.
