Eugene Corr, a multifaceted filmmaker, has accumulated a wealth of experience in both fiction and non-fiction filmmaking throughout his illustrious career.
Notably, Corr wrote and directed the feature documentary Waldo Salt: A Screenwriter's Journey, a collaborative effort with Robert Hillmann, which garnered him an Academy Award nomination in 1991. Additionally, he penned and directed the dramatic feature film Desert Bloom, a Columbia Pictures production starring Jon Voight and AnnaBeth Gish, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1986.
Corr's extensive filmography includes work as a second unit director on prominent motion pictures, such as Bull Durham and Cobb, as well as writing or co-writing dramatic features like Prefontaine, Never Cry Wolf, and Wildrose. He has also written for television, contributing to shows like Getting Out and MC Hammer: Too Legit.
As a director, Corr has helmed episodes of popular television series, including Crime Story, Miami Vice, Shannon's Deal, I'll Fly Away, Dream Street, Against the Law, and Arli$$. Furthermore, he has directed television commercials for Chelsea Pictures in New York City from 1987 to 1992.
Before embarking on his film career, Corr worked a variety of blue-collar jobs from the ages of 17 to 26, including stints as a factory worker, warehouse man, forklift driver, crane operator, auto worker, steel worker, and cannery worker. Corr's early start in film came in 1973 as a member of Cine Manifest, a radical San Francisco film group in the 1970s. A restored print of his debut feature, Over-Under, Sideways-Down, was recently screened at the Film Anthology Center in New York City.
Corr's most recent documentary, Ghost Town to Havana, was completed in September 2015 and has been making the festival circuit rounds, winning several awards, including the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival Audience Award, the Syracuse International Film Festival Sophia Award, and the Basel Shehade Award For Social Justice.
