Biography

A talented stage actor, Esmond made his cinematic debut in 1931 with a role in the film "77 Park Lane", marking the beginning of a long-standing collaboration with renowned director Michael Powell, with whom he would go on to work on a total of 11 films.

In addition to his illustrious acting career, Esmond also served his country with distinction during World War II, joining the Royal Navy and playing a pivotal role in the battle against the German battleship Bismarck.

Unfortunately, his bravery came at a great personal cost, as he suffered the loss of one eye and was left almost completely blind in the other as a result of the intense fighting.

Despite this devastating injury, Esmond refused to let it hold him back, and he went on to portray a Royal Naval officer in the 1960 film "Sink the Bismarck!", a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft and his unshakeable spirit.
