Esmir Filho, a talented filmmaker, graduated from the renowned FAAP film school in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2004. His journey in the film industry began with the production of his first feature film, "Os Famosos e os Duendes da Morte" (The Famous and the Dead),which was released in Brazil by Warner Bros. This remarkable film won numerous awards, including the top prize at the Rio Festival 2009, and was selected for the prestigious Berlinale Generation 14+ and Locarno official competition.
The film's accolades continued to mount as it won the best film, direction, and critics' awards at the Havana, Valdivia, Granada, and Guadalajara festivals. Its international premiere took place in theaters in France, Japan, and Portugal, further solidifying its global recognition.
Esmir Filho's short films have also garnered significant attention. His short film, "Alguma Coisa Assim" (Something Like That),won the best screenplay award at the prestigious Festival de Cannes 2006. Additionally, his short film, "Saliva", was nominated to represent Brazil in the running for the Oscars in 2008.
In 2011, Esmir Filho founded the producer company Saliva Shots, where he has been actively developing and producing audiovisual content for cinema, television, and the internet. He has also directed the multimedia piece "Kollwitzstrasse 52", a unique blend of cinema and theater, which was showcased at the Museum of Image and Sound of São Paulo.
Currently, Esmir Filho is in pre-production for his next long feature film, "Baleia" (Whale),and is developing the script for "Madeira de Lei" (Hardwood),a thriller set in the Amazon Forest. With his impressive portfolio and continued dedication to his craft, Esmir Filho is undoubtedly a prominent figure in the Brazilian film industry.
