Biography

Ernesto Almirante, a renowned Italian film and stage actor, was born on September 24, 1877, in Mistretta, Italy. He hailed from a family of actors, where his father, Nunzio, was also an accomplished stage performer. Almirante's early years were spent honing his craft on stage, working alongside his father for several years. He also ventured into the role of agent and organizer, overseeing various stage companies.

In the 1919 silent film "Federica d'Illirio", Almirante made his debut on the silver screen. However, it wasn't until the mid-1930s that he truly came into his own, becoming one of the most prolific character actors of his time.

After a successful career spanning decades, Almirante decided to retire from acting in 1955. He relocated to a retirement home for actors in Bologna, where he spent the remainder of his days. Notably, he was the uncle of the Italian politician, Giorgio Almirante.
