Biography

Erik, the son of a photographer, was born with a video camera attached to his back, literally, from the tender age of 15. This early exposure to the world of video production laid the foundation for a lifelong passion that would take him on an incredible journey. After graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington, Erik embarked on a career in television, working alongside the legendary reporter Bobbie Wygant at NBC 5, where he honed his skills in film and video archives.

With a solid foundation in television production, Erik transitioned to the world of advertising, where he spent 15 years crafting award-winning commercials as a writer and director. His impressive portfolio earned him a reputation as a master of his craft, with numerous ADDY awards to his name.

Erik's creative spark didn't stop there. He went on to write and direct the feature film "Seventy-8," which premiered at the prestigious Hollywood film festival in 2004 and secured worldwide distribution. This achievement was followed by the release of his time-lapse film "The Fort" in 2011, which became an instant viral sensation and earned him the American Advertising Award for Best Cinematography.

In 2012, Erik took the leap and founded his own production company, EC Films, which focused on documentary and commercial work in the DFW area. This move allowed him to concentrate on the projects that truly mattered to him, and his dedication paid off in 2020 with the premiere of his documentary "The Perilous Texas Adventures of Mark Dion" on PBS and Amazon Prime, which received rave reviews.

Erik's passion for cinema preservation is another area where he has made a significant impact. He is currently working on The Bobbie Wygant Archives, a project that has been featured in documentaries on HBO and CNN. This endeavor is a testament to his commitment to preserving the rich history of film and television, and his tireless efforts to make this legacy accessible to future generations.
