Eric Courtney is a renowned international award-winning video photographer with a remarkable 20-year career spanning across the globe. Born and raised in Ireland, Eric's journey in the industry began in the mid-1990s, capturing electronic press kits for major Hollywood movies such as Animal Farm, Reign of Fire, King Arthur, The Honeymooners, and The Count of Monte Cristo.
As his reputation grew, Eric was soon hired to work with world-renowned artists like Pavorotti, Leonard Cohen, Josh Groban, Snow Patrol, and David Gray. In 2004, he took on the role of cinematographer for the documentary KM64 Birth of a Skate Park, directed by David Keating.
In 2006, Eric worked as cinematographer on the critically acclaimed feature-length documentary The People's Tenor, showcasing the life of legendary singer John Mc Cormick. He then directed his first full-length feature film, Seer, in 2007, which premiered at the Irish Film Institute Horrorthon and the Galway Film Fleadh.
Eric's subsequent projects include being video photographer on the documentary Shay Elliot Cycle of Betrayal, which received a nomination for Best Sports Documentary at the Irish Film and Television Awards in 2010. In 2011, he worked on TK Wittaker Servant Of The State, which also received a nomination for Best Documentary at the Irish Film and Television Awards.
In 2012, Eric created a short film called Car Trouble, which was a semi-finalist at the Los Angeles Cinefest. His second feature film, An Irish Exorcism, was released in 2015 and obtained international distribution by Virgil Films across the United States and Canada.
In 2016, Eric's movie Good Fortune won a diamond award for best short film at the California Film Festival and an excellence award at the Canadian Headline International Film Festival. Eric is currently a freelance video photographer in Washington DC, working with international broadcasters such as CGTN, Channel 4/ITN, Hallmark Channel, and PBS.
Recent highlights include video photographer on the national Emmy Award-winning show 'Full Frame' and other prestigious shows for CGTN America. He has also worked on a PBS special, Tony Bennett The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, featuring performances by Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Gloria Estefan, Vanessa Williams, Bruce Willis, and Tony Bennett.
Eric is a member of the White House Photographer Association and the National Press Club, and he is also an FAA-certified Drone Pilot.
