Eric Christiansen, a renowned documentarian, has dedicated his life's work to socially responsible filmmaking that educates, inspires, and heals. With a remarkable seven-time Southwestern Region Emmy Award recipient, he explores the profound impact of trauma, the human spirit's resilience, and the power of hope in helping trauma survivors embark on the arduous journey of healing.
As a trauma survivor himself, Christiansen drew upon his personal experiences of loss, including the devastating Painted Cave Fire that destroyed his home and possessions, to create his first film, Faces in the Fire, 25 years ago. This powerful film marked the beginning of his remarkable career, which has since been marked by the creation of numerous transformative films that have helped thousands of individuals, families, and communities navigate the profound collateral damage caused by trauma.
Christiansen's films, including Faces in the Fire, Homecoming: A Vietnam Vets Journey, and Searching for Home: Coming Back from War, have been leveraged as educational tools by top mental health institutions, migrating from the entertainment arena into environments that provide crucial support to those affected by trauma. His work has reached a wide audience, with his films being used to help individuals, families, and communities heal and recover from the devastating effects of trauma.
Currently, Christiansen is preparing the premiere of his latest feature documentary, "unMASKing HOPE", which is set to air on public television in October 2022. Throughout his career, Christiansen has worked on both commercial and cause-driven projects, producing content for major networks such as Discovery, TLC, PBS, MTV, and an Imax film. He has also appeared on 50 podcasts in 10 countries, sharing his expertise and insights with a global audience.
