Emperor Showa, born on April 29th, 1901, and passing away on January 7th, 1989, was the 124th emperor of Japan, reigning from December 25th, 1926, until his death in 1989. Known by his personal name Hirohito in English-speaking countries, he was a devoted husband to Empress Kojun, with whom he had a total of seven children, consisting of two sons and five daughters. Upon his passing, his fifth child and eldest son, Akihito, succeeded him as the new emperor.
