Emily Reach White is a renowned filmmaker with a storied career spanning nearly two decades. Her impressive portfolio boasts a diverse range of projects, from the Southern Gothic comedy anthology Unbecoming, where she served as a co-producer, to the poignant personal dramedy Get Better, which she co-wrote and co-directed, drawing inspiration from her father's terminal illness.
White's creative versatility is evident in her work on Cinema Purgatorio, a farcical film that lampoons the movie business, which she co-wrote and co-produced. Her most recent production, Electric Jesus, is a music-centric coming-of-age comedy that delves into the world of a fictional 80's Christian hair metal band, 316. The film follows the band's journey from humble beginnings at Bible camp talent shows to the heights of rock stardom, offering a humorous glimpse into the youth culture of the time.
Electric Jesus boasts an impressive cast, featuring Brian Baumgartner (The Office),Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire),as well as newcomers Shannon Hutchinson (Assassinaut) and Andrew Eakle (Creepshow, The Glorias). The film has received widespread critical acclaim, earning Best Picture at the 2020 Orlando Film Festival, as well as awards for Best Narrative Feature at the Fayetteville Film Festival and Rome (Georgia) International Film Festival.
White's upcoming project, the Wide Angle Lab, is a media incubator sponsored by the South Carolina Film Commission's Indie Grants program. As an executive producer, producer, and screenwriter, she will be instrumental in bringing this innovative project to life.
In addition to her impressive filmmaking credentials, White holds an M.A. in English Literature from Miami University. She currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina with her husband, director/producer/screenwriter Chris White.
