Biography

Declan Patrick MacManus, better known by his stage name Elvis Costello, was born in London, England, and spent his formative years in Liverpool. As the son of British band leader Ross McManus, it's no surprise that music played a significant role in his life. In fact, Costello's pseudonym was inspired by his admiration for Elvis Presley and his father's stage name, Day Costello.

After beginning his professional music career in 1969, Costello went on to perform with various bands around London before forming the moderately successful pub-rock band "Flip City" in the mid-1970s. Despite his musical pursuits, Costello worked full-time as a computer operator, a career that likely influenced his later work in the music industry.

In 1977, Costello landed his first record deal with Stiff Records, and he used his vacation time to record his debut album "My Aim Is True". The album was a massive hit in England, leading to a worldwide distribution deal with Columbia Records. This success paved the way for Costello to form his backup group, "The Attractions", with whom he went on to record several popular and influential albums over the next decade.

Throughout his illustrious career, Elvis Costello has been regarded as one of the most influential and popular singer-songwriters in modern music. In 1998, he collaborated with legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach on the highly successful album "Painted From Memory", a collection of love songs that showcased the duo's remarkable chemistry.

Today, Elvis Costello is a celebrated figure in the music industry, with a legacy that continues to inspire new generations of musicians and fans alike. His unique blend of punk, new wave, and rock influences has made him a beloved and enduring presence in the world of music.
