Biography

Ella Raines, a talented actress, was born in the picturesque Snoqualmie Falls, Washington, in the year 1920. Following her high school graduation, she pursued her passion for drama by enrolling at the University of Washington, where she actively participated in numerous plays, honing her craft. After completing her studies, she made the bold decision to travel to the bright lights of New York City, with its iconic Broadway stage, seeking new opportunities and challenges.

Her journey ultimately led her to being signed by the renowned director Howard Hawks, who recognized her immense potential. Raines made her film debut in the 1943 production of Corvette K-225, opposite the charismatic Randolph Scott, playing the role of his love interest. This marked the beginning of a prolific career, with her appearing in numerous A-pictures, including the action-packed Tall in the Saddle (1944),alongside the legendary John Wayne.

Throughout her illustrious career, Raines shared the screen with some of Hollywood's most iconic stars, including Vincent Price, William Powell, and Brian Donlevy. Her standout performance as a spirited garage owner in the underrated Impact (1949),directed by Arthur Lubin, showcased her versatility and talent. The early 1950s saw Raines take on a new challenge, starring in her own television series, Janet Dean, Registered Nurse (1954),as well as embarking on a short-lived recording career.

Tragically, Raines' life came to a close in 1988, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances and a lasting impact on the world of entertainment.
