Edward Burns was born on January 29, 1968, in New York City, as the second of three children to Molly, a Federal Aviation Administration employee at Kennedy Airport, and Edward J. Burns, a police sergeant and spokesperson for the New York Police Department. Raised as a Catholic, he and his older sister Mary, and brother Brian, were raised on Long Island.
