Biography

Eddie Acuff, a talented supporting actor, spent eighteen remarkable years in the captivating world of Hollywood's A, B, or Z movies. During this extensive career, he made an astonishing almost 300 film and television appearances.

His on-screen presence could be subtle, fleeting, or more substantial. He often played the wise-cracking guy who "knows better," showcasing his remarkable acting skills. Born on June 3rd, 1903, Edward Acuff was drawn to acting by his maternal uncle, a performer on showboats along the Mississippi River.

Before venturing to Hollywood, Acuff started his theater career, even appearing in minor roles on Broadway in plays such as 'The Dark Hour,' 'Heat Lightning,' or 'Yellow Jack.' From 1934 to 1951, he worked tirelessly, appearing in numerous films.

Although only a few of his films are now considered classics, such as The Petrified Forest (1936),They Drive by Night (1940),High Sierra (1941),The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947),and Johnny Allegro (1949),his presence in any film is always a delight.
