Douglas Spain's feature film debut in "StarMaps" earned him critical acclaim and a 1998 Independent Spirit Award nomination. The dark-humored film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, follows the story of Carlos, played by Spain, who sells maps to the stars' homes and himself on the streets of Los Angeles to realize his dreams of acting.
Spain has appeared in a range of films and television shows, including HBO's "Walkout," directed by Edward James Olmos, and "The Reading Room" opposite James Earl Jones for the Hallmark Channel. He has also been seen in HBO's "Band Of Brothers," produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, and "44 Minutes" with Michael Madsen for FX.
Additionally, Spain has appeared in a number of independent films, including "Delivering Milo" with Bridget Fonda and Albert Finney for Deepak Nayar, "Cherry Falls" with Brittany Murphy and Jay Mohr, and "Permanent Midnight" alongside Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. He has also executive produced and appeared in the independent film "Hunting Of Man."
Spain has recurred on the Showtime Original Series "Resurrection Boulevard" with Elizabeth Pena and Esai Morales, and was well-received in the Showtime Original Picture "12 Angry Men," alongside a stellar ensemble cast including Ossie Davis, George C. Scott, Jack Lemmon, Hume Cronyn, James Gandolfini, and Edward James Olmos.
In addition to his work in film and television, Spain has also made his mark on the stage. He has appeared in productions with Naked Angels, L.A. and Playmakers Repertory Company, North Carolina, including "Gunplay: La Familia" and "Sunrise In My Pocket." Spain made his directorial debut with the short film "Charity."
