Biography

Douglas Beattie embarked on a journey as an independent producer and director in 1979, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. His connection with Dan Needles dates back to their childhood summers spent on a farm, fostering a lifelong association that would later prove to be incredibly fruitful.

As the leader of the Wingfield team, Beattie has also had the privilege of serving as a guest director at numerous prestigious institutions, including the Stratford Festival, the Belfry Theatre in Victoria, the Lighthouse Festival in Port Dover, Ontario, Theatre Orangeville, the Blyth Festival, the Piggery Theatre in North Hatley, Quebec, the Thousand Islands Playhouse, the Gryphon Theatre in Barrie, Ontario, and the Grand Theatre in London, Ontario, where he directed the production of "The Perils of Persephone".

Beattie's impressive resume also includes a stint as consultant for Primedia's television production of "Letter From Wingfield Farm", which garnered the 1991 "Gemini" Award for best performing arts program. Furthermore, he is the co-executive producer of the Wingfield TV series, a testament to his dedication and expertise in the industry.

In addition to his numerous credits as a producer and director, Beattie is also the founding Artistic Director of Touchmark Theatre in Guelph, Ontario, and the President of Douglas Beattie Theatrical Productions Ltd., which is responsible for marketing the audio and video recordings of the Wingfield plays. Throughout his career, Beattie has consistently demonstrated his passion for the performing arts, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
