Biography

Nella C. Gambini was born in Ferrara, Italy in 1953 to a Cuban mother and a Roman father. Her initial encounter with the world of art occurred at the tender age of ten, when she began performing as a singer in a cabaret club in her hometown.

Her theatrical debut as an actress followed shortly after, alongside the renowned Emma Gramatica, sister of Anna and Irma, in a Niccodemi drama. She shared the stage with esteemed actors Arnoldo Foà and Paola Borboni, further honing her craft.

In 1966, Gambini relocated to Rome and joined the Roman comic acting company led by the renowned poet and actor Checco Durante. This formative and fulfilling experience lasted for ten years, during which she participated in numerous performances at the Rossini Theatre and Villa Aldobrandini.

On December 28, 1975, Gambini performed alongside Checco Durante for the last time in "The Discovery of America" by Alberto Retti. Following Durante's death on January 5, 1976, she parted ways with the company.

In 1966, Gambini began her career in cinema at Cinecittà, where her father Biagio worked as a professional acrobat and master of arms. She quickly gained experience as a stunt-woman and stunt double for various actresses and actors, showcasing her skills in a range of physical stunts.

However, in 1977, when her father retired, Gambini abandoned her stunt-girl activity. She continued to work in dubbing, lending her voice to several actresses, children, and supporting roles. Some notable actresses she dubbed include Simonetta Stefanelli, Jenny Tamburi, Fiorella Mannoia, and Anna Melato.

Gambini also took on supporting roles in films, but it was in theater that she was able to shine, taking on a wide range of roles and genres under the direction of renowned directors and prominent figures.

In the 1980s, she served as an assistant to the esteemed actress Monica Vitti, drama professor at the National Academy of Dramatic Art "Silvio D'Amico" in Rome. She remained active as an actress in film and television until 2000.

From 2003 to 2006, Gambini worked as an acting coach on the sets of series and miniseries shot at Cinecittà. Ultimately, she retired in 2003, devoting herself exclusively to the world of theater.
