Freeway, Jr., a charismatic and scene-stealing Lowchen dog, made his mark on the small screen as the real-life son of Freeway, an 8-year-old Lowchen rescued from an animal shelter, known as Charlie Gray in real life. Freeway, Jr. went on to star in a series of eight two-hour "Hart to Hart" television movies between 1993 and 1996, nearly a decade after the original series concluded.
The initial five movies aired on NBC as part of the network's "Friday Night Mystery Movie" series, while the final three were broadcast on The Family Channel. Freeway, Jr.'s acting debut came in the first "Hart to Hart" television movie, "Hart to Hart Returns," in which Robert Wagner playfully referred to him as simply, "Junior," in scenes they shared together.
As the prized family dog of two rich globe-trotting amateur sleuths, Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, played by Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers, Freeway, Jr. brought a unique charm to the long-running television series for ABC. His real-life father, Freeway, had previously starred as the Hart family dog in the original series, and it was only fitting that his son would follow in his paw-steps.
Throughout his television career, Freeway, Jr. proved to be a natural in front of the camera, stealing scenes and winning hearts with his adorable antics and charming demeanor. Despite being a canine, he had a remarkable ability to convey emotions and add depth to the storylines, making him a beloved and memorable character in the world of television.
