As a Casting Director, he has made a significant impact in the industry by introducing new and exceptional talent. His impressive credits include collaborating with renowned directors such as Ang Lee, Mira Nair, Wes Anderson, and Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, among others.
Some of his notable casting credits include Ang Lee's Life of Pi, Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding and The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited, Florian Gallenberger's Shadows of Time, Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra's Delhi 6 and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Ashvin Kumar's The Little Terrorist, Pan Nalin's Valley of Flowers, and Mike Cahill's I Origins.
In addition to his work as a Casting Director, Dilip Shankar has also held the position of Associate Director with Pan Nalin on the documentary feature Faith Connections, which opened to rave reviews at the Toronto International Festival in 2013. Furthermore, he has served as Line Producer on three feature films - Ayurveda - Art of Being, Samsara, and Valley of Flowers - all directed by Pan Nalin.

Some of his notable performances include Cassio in Roysten Abel's award-winning adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello, Raju Guide in Sanjoy Roy's adaptation of R. K. Narayan's Guide, and Jawaharlal Nehru in Pramila Le Hunte's Nehru-His Inner Story. He has had the opportunity to work with esteemed directors such as B. V. Karanth, Anamika Haksar, Abhilash Pillai, and Bertina Johnson.
In the Delhi theatre scene, Dilip Shankar is a respected theatre director, having directed a multitude of plays and written 36 plays so far. He was also the Show Running Director for Zangoora - the Gypsy Prince at the Kingdom of Dreams from 2010 to 2012.
