Dick Bennetts, a motorsport engineer and team manager of great renown, was born on June 26, 1946, in the picturesque city of Dunedin, New Zealand.
He embarked on his illustrious career in the 1960s, working with local racing teams in his native New Zealand before making the bold move to the UK in 1972.
In 1981, Bennetts took the bold step of founding West Surrey Racing (WSR),which would go on to become a dominant force in British Formula 3, fostering the talents of legendary drivers such as Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen, and Rubens Barrichello.
Under his astute leadership, WSR made a successful transition to touring car racing in the mid-1990s, achieving a string of notable successes in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
