Dianne Whelan is a renowned Canadian Documentary filmmaker, photographer, artist, storyteller, author, and public speaker, boasting a 30-year career marked by numerous achievements. Her impressive body of work includes writing, directing, and producing two award-winning films, a three-part series for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC),and a Gemini-nominated interactive website.
As a prolific artist and storyteller, Dianne has authored two books and showcased her photographs in various art galleries throughout her career. Her most recent accomplishment is the completion of the 24,000 km Trans Canada Trail, a feat she achieved in August 2021, making her the first person and woman to do so.
The journey, which spanned 500 days, is the subject of her upcoming film project and will also be the focus of her next book. Her feature documentary, "40 Days at Base Camp," was shot on Mount Everest and is accompanied by her book, "Base Camp: 40 Days on Everest," which chronicles her experience at the iconic mountain.
In addition, Dianne's book "This Vanishing Land" is based on her experience filming in Canada's High Arctic, which was previously documented in her film "This Land" (NFB).
