Diana Burbano is a multifaceted individual, boasting a rich background as a Colombian immigrant, a playwright, an Equity actor, and a teaching artist. Her impressive body of work includes the play "Ghosts of Bogotá", which premiered at Alter Theatre in 2020, just before the pandemic struck, and was later produced at the Actors Theatre of Charlotte in 2022. Additionally, her play "Sapience" made its debut at Moxie Theatre in San Diego in 2022, and "Fabulous Monsters", a Latinx Punk Rock play featuring the music of FEA, is set to premiere at The Public Theatre of San Antonio in 2023.
Notably, Diana was part of the esteemed Center Theatre Group's 2018-19 Writers Workshop cohort and the Geffen's Writers Lab in 2020-21. She has received commissions from prominent organizations such as Artists Repertory Theatre, Breath of Fire Latina Theatre Ensemble, Center Theatre Group, and Livermore Shakespeare Festival. Moreover, she has been awarded residencies at Marfa Live Arts, Milagro theatre Ingenio, Workshop Theatre Lab at Echo Theatre, and the Mercury Company for Artists Repertory.
On stage, Diana has played memorable roles such as Amalia in Jose Cruz Gonzales' "American Mariachi" at South Coast Repertory and Arizona Theatre Company, Marisela in "La Ruta" at Artists Repertory, and Izzy in the world premiere of Julie Hébert's "Drunk at the Base of the Bodhi Tree" for Mile High Theatre. She has also made appearances as Viv the Punk in the cult musical "Isle of Lesbos".
Diana's accomplishments have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Advance Gender Equity in the Arts grant in 2022, the Bay Area Rella Lossy Award for "Ghosts of Bogotá", the Long Beach Arts Council Professional Artist Grant in 2019 and 2020, and the 2021 Jane Chambers Award for excellence in Feminist Playwriting. Furthermore, she was featured in the Los Angeles Times' LA Vanguardia in November 2022.
