Biography

A renowned Broadway icon, renowned for his exceptional performances in both dramatic and musical productions, he had the distinction of originating the role of Francois Villon in Rudolf Friml's esteemed theatrical masterpiece, "The Vagabond King", in the year 1925.

In addition to his impressive stage accomplishments, he also ventured into the realm of sound film, making his debut opposite the talented Jeanette MacDonald, Lillian Roth, and Warner Oland, a remarkable five years later. Despite being primarily a stage actor, he did make a limited number of film appearances, with some of his most notable roles being in "The Devil's Brother" (1933) and "Between Two Worlds" (1944).

Furthermore, he was a prolific performer on early television, showcasing his remarkable talents to a wider audience.
