Delta Burke is an esteemed actress, best recognized for her iconic portrayal of Suzanne Sugarbaker in the CBS television series Designing Women, which ran for a remarkable seven seasons and garnered her two Emmy nominations for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
Prior to her rise to fame, Burke represented Florida in the Miss America Pageant, where she won a talent scholarship, which she utilized to attend the prestigious two-year study program at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
Within a month of her arrival in Los Angeles, Burke secured her first television role, starring in the TV movie The Seekers (1979) and the series The Chisholms (1979). She later landed the leading role in Filthy Rich (1982) and a starring role in HBO's inaugural weekly series 1st & Ten (1984).
Through her own production company, Perseverance, Inc., Burke produced and starred in the ABC television series Delta (1992),where she showcased her singing talents and dyed her dark hair blonde for the role. She was reunited with Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason when she starred in and produced Women of the House (1995),reprising her role as Suzanne Sugarbaker.
In recent years, Burke has dedicated a significant amount of her time to designing clothing and managing her New York-based company, Delta Burke Design, which has achieved considerable success. She is married to actor Gerald McRaney and resides in New Orleans, except when working or traveling.
