Declan has had an illustrious career in directing some of the most acclaimed shows on Irish television, including the critically acclaimed "Pure Mule" which won an impressive five IFTA awards, including Best Director and Best Drama.
This critically acclaimed show was praised by The Irish Times, who wrote that it had "spectacularly raised the bar for Irish television drama." Another one of his notable works is "The Running Mate," which was described by critics as "Truly marvelous...A political drama with balls."
Declan's debut feature film, "Eden," was a significant milestone in his career. It was the closing film at the 2008 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival and premiered in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Best Actress Award for Eileen Walsh's outstanding performance.
The New York Times praised "Eden" as "Exquisitely tuned to the terrors of approaching middle age" and even featured it as a "critics pick." His subsequent film, "The Truth Commissioner," was nominated for Best Drama at the 2016 Celtic Media Awards, and The Observer (UK) called it "Resonant, electric drama."
In addition to his film work, Declan has also made a significant impact in television. His film "The Flag" was released in cinemas in 2016 and became the number one film screened on Irish TV on Christmas Day of that year, captivating a third of all viewers.
Recent TV credits include episodes of "Death in Paradise" and "Nova Jones" for BBC Studios, as well as "Red Election" (Mopar Studios/A+E) which is now available on Disney+. Declan's latest feature film, "Tarrac," premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2022, solidifying his position as one of Ireland's most respected and accomplished directors.
